Blizzplanet’s Heroes Website Update Progress # 2

Today, all 42 Heroes in the website will be updated and completed: including abilities, and talents, plus added the most recent talent builds played at HGC winning matches in August-September. During the next couple of weeks, I will add the other missing 28 Heroes to finish updating the website.

Moving forward, I’ll update the talent builds when a big eSport event comes up.

Blizzplanet’s Heroes Website Update Progress # 1

Most of the site has been mostly outdated since the Alpha/Beta days, and I apologize. I am actively changing that. Not with words, but with action.

I have spent several hours the past 3 days updating 10 Heroes’ abilities and talents. Everything done manually in Photoshop and using widget tools. No datamining. In addition, I have added hero builds straight from the winning matches of the most recent 2017 HGC NA, HGC Europe and the HGC Eastern Clash (spanning July-August).

  • Name of team player who used it
  • Team name
  • Event Name, Phase, Part, and Match number
  • YouTube link to the VOD

I think an important aspect of a Heroes build site should be to know who the build comes from, and that it has been used by someone with experience in winning matches professionally in our Heroes of the Storm eSports scene. So I hope these updates help your gameplay experience and knowledge, and that you start to trust and rely on Blizzplanet’s Heroes of the Storm in the future. Trust is earned slowly and progressively.

Once I am done updating all 70 Heroes, I will add the newest Heroes as Blizzard releases them, and update the builds again for the BlizzCon Worldwide Championship, and future big eSports events to keep the builds fresh and updated to the current meta.

As you might have noticed, the top navigation has been changed. You can now browse Heroes in 4 role categories: Tank, Assassin, Support, and Specialist. Updated Heroes have an asterik. You can completely ignore the ones without an asterik until I get to update them.

At the moment, only 10 Heroes are updated:

TANKASSASSINSPECIALIST
ArthasAlarakAbathur
Diablo
E.T.C.
Garrosh
Johanna
Muradin
Sonya
Stitches

Please, become a Blizzplanet Patreon. That will help keep the hosting servers running, plus helps with outsourcing BlizzCon Panel transcripts every year, done by two professional freelance transcribers and myself. Earlier this year, after very visited interviews, I had to upgrade hosting servers and add an extra layer of protection to avoid servers going down due to multiple simultaneous visits. This elevated the cost to $60 per month, up from $15.

This in turn has negated funds to help our remarkable interviewers with their own travel expenses, which now comes out of their pocket voluntarily to keep the website online. If you have enjoyed our interviews and coverage of BlizzCon, E3, GamesCom, PAX East, PAX West, New York Comic Con and San Diego Comic Con, please consider to become our patreon.

As soon as you help us reach the $60 a month mark, I will remove all non-Blizzard advertising.

We are very few staff members, and only two writers at the moment, but hopefully Blizzplanet has been a source of information for you over the past 14 years.

Hope you enjoyed this article. Please, support Blizzplanet on Patreon, and follow us in Twitter, Facebook and YouTube for daily Blizzard games news updates.

Blizzplanet’s Heroes of the Storm Website to be updated

Recently, a Reddit user pointed out that the Blizzplanet’s Heroes of the Storm website is very outdated, and he is correct. All pre-launch hero pages are as old as Alpha/Beta. I have only been updating the heroes talents since Auriel, and spent most of two years focused on building content and videos for other Blizzard games’ Betas and PTRs. I have been a bad procrastinator.

One thing I should point out is that I am not a programmer, and everything you see in all Blizzplanet sub-sites are manually done. There is no datamining involved, except when I link to WoWhead in the World of Warcraft website.

That means it is a lot of hours of work taking screenshots in-game, editing talent icons in photoshop, and formatting text, adding voice over quote videos, hero music theme videos, and other stuff. Nevertheless, I am listening. The Reddit user woke me up to take the challenge of updating all heroes. It won’t be easy. It won’t be comfortable to spend so many hours (I estimate a minimum of 150 hours to update all 70 Heroes, except the last few that are already updated).

In addition, very few of the heroes have an actual build example. So this is going to be an opportunity for me to add build suggestions to each hero. It would be easy to copy each build from the internet, but I don’t know who wrote the guide, or how good they are. So I want to add an extra layer of difficulty to the challenge of updating this website’s heroes. Each build will be referenced to eSports players with a link to the HGC video.

That will, of course, add up extra hours watching videos, and searching for a specific hero build across hundreds of eSports videos. That won’t be easy, I tell you.

I will start with updating 2 heroes a day. At that rate, I might be able to finish all 70 heroes in a bit over a month.

With Patch 7.3 already live (and video content finished), I was planning to move on to building content for the StarCraft: Remastered, but decided the Heroes of the Storm website update is long overdue.

The first two heroes I finished updating today: Abathur and Alarak (work in progress). Follow us on Twitter and Facebook for updates.

I am physically disable, which means I have plenty of spare time to play video games and build website content. However, that also means that I can’t afford the website hosting on my own. The website hosting is sustained with the ads on this website, and with the YouTube revenue.

Please, consider to Patron Blizzplanet via Patreon. Once the Patreon goal ($60 a month) is reached, I will be able to remove all non-Blizzard ads.

UPDATE #1: Retired the huge navigation images and replaced the navigation with a new menu located at the top-left (beneath the Blizzplanet logo). It is now divided by role: Tank, Assassin, Support, and Specialist. Almost all Tanks are updated plus added match winner builds straight from the recent HGC 2017 North America and Europe (w/ link to the YouTube VODs). Will slowly update the Assassins throughout Sept 3-8.

Kel’Thuzad’s abilities are: Death and Decay, Frost Nova, and Chains of Kel’Thuzad. His Heroic Abilities are: Frost Blast and Shadow Fissure.

The spotlight video will be revealed on Wed August 23 during the GamesCom 2017 Blizzard livestream.

  • All shall feel the touch of despair as the darkest secrets of the Nexus are revealed… Drawn to the immeasurable power found within the Nexus, Kel’thuzad, Archlich of Naxxramas, has turned several of the noblest Heroes against their allies, and he will not stop until all become minions of the cold dark!

    Garrosh Build

    Garrosh Build

This build was used by TPsign (Tempest) at the HGC Korea 2017 — Phase 2 Part 1 – Game 1 – Mighty v Tempest on August 25, 2017.

    Unrivaled Strength

    Indomitable

    Into the Fray

    Warlord's Challenge

    Double Up

    Mortal Combo

    Titanic Might

Unrivaled Strength can be fun at the start allowing you to throw an enemy into the towers’ range, or even to trap them behind the gate. Indomitable allows you to survive while escaping to safety, or while fighting in melee range with a 1.5 sec Unstoppable buff, especially if the enemy triggers an Ultimate hero ability. Into the Fray is an active ability that allows you to throw a friendly player to a nearby enemy target, or to a safe spot if they are dying. The Hero talent Warlord’s Challenge silences nearby enemies, and taunts them for 1.5 sec. Double Up adds another layer of survivability as an active ability by increasing bonus armor by 100% for 3 sec. Mortal Combo is a passive that is triggered when you use Groundbreaker and within 2 sec you follow up with Wrecking Ball, reducing Wrecking Ball’s cooldown by 10 sec. That means you can cast Wrecking Ball again 6 sec later. Titan Might now throws 2 nearby enemy or friendly players when using Wrecking Ball.

Garrosh and New Skins in Development

Garrosh will soon join Heroes of the Storm along with what looks like a celebration of the StarCraft: Remastered launch with new StarCraft-themed skins: Templar Li-Ming, L800 ETC (Marine skin), and Anu’balisk.

There is new color variations for existing skins:

    • Demon Hunter Valeera (2)
    • Lo’gosh Varian (1)
    • Swarm Abathur (1)
    • Pack Leader Dehaka (1)
    • The Butcherlisk (1)
    • Hellblade Samuro (1)
    • Emberlord Zul’jin (2)
    • Highlord Alarak (1)
    • Goliath D.va (2)

Garrosh also has a variant skin named Mad Axe Garrosh (donning some goblin gizmos), and a new bike mount (Road Roar).
