Colin: “Here is what is going to get me off the air: if I am ever forced to cover guys playing video games, I will retire; and move to a rural fishing village and sell bait.
You want me out? Demand video game tournaments on ESPN, because that’s what appeared on ESPN2 yesterday.
Thanks to a partnership with Blizzard, there was a League of Legends battle for two and a half hours yesterday on ESPN2.
So while many of you watched Kevin Harlan and Reggie Miller call the Rocks/Mavs game on TNT, Artosis and Day9 called a Heroes of the Storm game on ESPN2 yesterday. If ESPN ever forced me to cover that, or do play-by-play, I would quit.
Somebody lock the basement door at mom’s house, and don’t let ’em out. I would quit this network if I’m ever asked to cover that.
I tagged out at Harry Potter. I tolerated Donkey Kong, okay? I will tell you what that was the equivalent there: of me putting a gun in my mouth and having to listen to that. Ayayay (simulating a Latino’s lamentation).
You know what the funny thing is? Listening to how intense they are. These guys are totally into it.”
If you search “Colin Cowherd” and “Heroes of the Dorm” together in Google, you will see pages and pages of links to different gaming and sport websites covering his rant; as well as plenty of responses fighting back his slurs toward gamers. One thing you can be certain of when pulling something like this and it going viral is that ESPN is likely to call him on it and fire him. On the other hand, if eSports makes its way to ESPN as an ongoing coverage, he’ll have to quit ESPN on his own. Here are just a couple of them gamers responding to him in what looks like a Cowherd-gate situation. Even USAToday had something to say:
