[Speculation] GamesCom 2018 Declare Your Allegiance

Recently, Blizzard teased a new hero and according to a fan the German BlizzHeroes Twitter leaked in the HTML code’s Image Alt the words: “teaser for Mephisto.” At least a second fan confirmed to have seen that too.

In addition, the official GamesCom 2018 Blizzard App (Android/iOS) shows a peculiar AR Guided Tour under the Heroes of the Storm icon titled “Declare Your Allegiance” – Find and scan the Heroes of the Storm wall to pick your side and swear Allegiance.

That might be an innocent image exclusively for the AR Guided Tour… or it might be hinting at the content to be revealed at GamesCom. The left side of the image is not the Burning Hells (as one might suspect), but the Dark Nexus… as seen in Deckard Cain’s comic: Secrets of the Storm.

That might mean that the Raven Lord has enlisted the aid of Mephisto to assault the High Heavens, bringing along an army of Dark Nexus heroes (wearing Diablo-themed skins). Rings a bell? Echoes of Alterac (Quest Event), where players Declared Allegiance to either the Alliance or the Horde to battle in Alterac Pass. In that case, Blizzard only announced:

  • New Hero: Yrel
  • New Battleground: Alterac Pass
  • Quest Event: Echoes of Alterac
  • New Alliance & Horde themed skins: Yrel, Junkrat, Johanna, Muradin, Valeera, Auriel, Varian, and Garrosh.

So GamesCom 2018, being a big gaming event, might have:

  • New Hero: Mephisto
  • New Battleground
  • Burning Hell/High Heavens themed skins
  • Quest Event: “Declare Allegiance to Burning Hells or High Heavens”

One might be tempted to wonder whether it would be one Hero announcement, or two instead. We already have Tyrael, Malthael, and Auriel. Two more missing, eh?
