Blizzplanet Heading to Toy Fair NY 2015 – NECA Heroes of the Storm Action Figures

Earlier today, Sunday, Jason Bischoff (Blizzard Senior Toys and Collectibles Manager) retweeted NECA — which plans to bring some Blizzard licensed products to the Toy Fair New York event through February 14-17.

Though there is no specific mention of what NECA is going to showcase, barely two months ago there was a video interview by UltimateToyCollector with NECA’s Brad Haskins who showed how NECA sculptors are crafting the Heroes of the Storm action figures. In this video, Brad says the action figures might be on sale around the end of 2015 or beginning of 2016.

Toy Fair NY is on February 2015, thus chances are they might be showing either prototypes or some of the action figures they have ironed out. Of course, I am merely speculating at this point.

The Toy Fair New York is exclusively for industry folks, and it is not open to the public. However, I am excited to say I got a Press Badge confirmation email today to attend the Toy Fair NY event. Only way to find out what NECA is bringing to the booth is going in person to the booth to take photos and video. So count on that here at Blizzplanet.

Special thanks to Jason Bischoff for the heads up via Twitter. I have gone to Toy Fair NY the past 3 years, and I was not going to attend this year; thus didn’t submit a Press registration. That retweet boosted my morale to attend this year, and thanks to Toy Fair NY for approving the press badge within less than 4 hours.

Heroes of the Storm Action Figures

A few months ago, NECA unveiled their acquisition of the Heroes of the Storm license to develop 6-7″ scaled action figures. showed a photo of the banner NECA displayed at San Diego Comic Con. Although NECA didn’t specify which characters would be in the action figures line-up, the banner showed: Illidan Stormrage, Stitches, Nova, Tyrael and The Lich King. (Note: In addition, the video above leaked they have the 3D model files of these heroes)

The video above revealed Brad was working on Illidan’s Warglaive of Azzinoth and he also showed a 3D printed El’Druin sword (Tyrael’s weapon). Brad also says in the video that so far “We have 5 action figures for this first line” — suggesting there might be a Series 2 and possibly Series 3 in batches of at least 5 Heroes each series.

The development of these action figures is amazing. Brad revealed Blizzard Entertainment actually gave NECA the Heroes of the Storm in-game character model files and NECA is 3D Printing prototypes from those files, then sculpting the textures and patterns seen in the 3D models in the real life pieces that constitute the action figures and their weapons. That’s amazing!

So why do I think these will be shown at Toy Fair New York? Well, back in November NECA tweeted at least two of the Heroes of the Storm action figures were in the Paintmaster stage; so it is likely they might have a few action figures ready to be shown to the public. What better place than Toy Fair New York?

PAX East 2015

I have no inside, or underground knowledge of whether Blizzard Entertainment is heading to PAX East 2015, but that’s where they unveiled Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft a couple years ago; and at PAX East 2014, last year, Blizzard showcased Heroes of the Storm and revealed 4 new heroes (Brightwing, Li Li, Zagara and Murky) and a variety of new skins. Blizzard also unveiled Hearthstone: Curse of Naxxramas at PAX East 2014, and we also had an interview with Kris Zierhut & Steve Burke about World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor. Blizzard also had the Diablo III Ultimate Edition (PS4) at the showfloor to let attendees play the game.

Thus, there’s a good chance that Blizzard might have something to show this year at PAX East 2015.

With our correspondent Anthony not able to attend due to college stuff getting on the way, I registered for Press Access, and got my application approved. I’ll have to plan ahead my attendance to whatever Blizzard might be showing there if they come.
