Origins
Diablo debuted in the acclaimed RPG game of all times Diablo (1996) by Blizzard Entertainment. During the Darkening of Tristram, Diablo influenced the hearts of men, focusing on King Leoric the most and driving him insane. Archbishop Lazarus served Diablo in secrecy and attempted to use King Leoric's youngest son Albrecht as the vessel for Diablo. In the events of the video game, a brave warrior fought his way through the lower depths of the Cathedral of Tristram to face the Lord of Terror. The Warrior drove the soulstone housing Diablo's spirit into his forehead to contain his spirit. However, Diablo possessed him body and soul becoming his vessel. In Diablo III, it is revealed that the young Warrior was named Aidan -- eldest son of King Leoric. In the days following the Darkening of Tristram, Aidan was known as The Dark Wanderer. Always traveling east to free Diablo's brothers from their soulstone prisons: Baal and Mephisto. In the end, Diablo was defeated in the Burning Hells. Ever since his spirit remained trapped within the Black Soulstone. It is revealed in Diablo III, that Adria the Witch was in communion with the Lord of Terror as his servant all along. She marked his soul to be dragged into the Black Soulstone. His long-term plan was to one day rise as the Prime Evil with the spirits of the Great and Lesser evils and Leah the Nephalem empowering him. Several novels are based on the Diablo universe: Some of them are contained in a collection of four novels in the Diablo Archive (which contains: Legacy of Blood, The Black Road, The Kingdom of Shadow and Demonsbane).
