Jaina Talent Build: Water Elemental Madness
Jaina has some useful talent builds to perform her role as a ranged assassin. The build I use the most is the one I dub the Water Elemental Madness build.
|1||Deep Chill (Trait)||Increases the slow of Chill from 25% to 35%.|
|4||Snowstorm||Increases the radius of Blizzard by 30%.|
|7||Frostbitten||Increases the damage bonus of Frostbite from 50% to 65%.|
|10||Summon Water Elemental||Summons a Water Elemental at target location, dealing 176 damage and Chilling nearby enemies. The Water Elemental's Basic Attacks splash for 25% damage and Chill. Cooldown: 100 seconds.|
|13||Storm Front||Increases the cast range of Blizzard by 100%.|
|16||Northern Exposure||Enemies damaged by Cone of Cold are also afflicted with Vulnerable, increasing the damage they take by 25% for 2 sec.|
|20||Wintermute||Your Water Elemental will now mimic your Frostbolt, Blizzard, and Cone of Cold Abilities for 50% damage. Cast range increased by 50%.|
There might be better combinations for builds, but I reached level 10 using this build and the win ratio was good enough to be comfortable.
[tooltip tip=”Deep Chill”][/tooltip]At level 1, Lingering Chill or Deep Chill enhance your trait to slow enemies. It is critical for taking down enemy players at the lanes because you can then dominate the lane for a minute to increase team XP. Usually, I hide in a bush and wait until an enemy player rushes in. I begin to attack, slowing them down and applying Frostbolt as needed. Hopefully, another friendly player can cash-in on the opportunity of a slowed down enemy trying to run for his/her life.
[tooltip tip=”Snowstorm”][/tooltip]At level 4, Snowstorm increases your Blizzard radius by 30%, which is vital to kill minions at the lane at that early game. More minions taken out swiftly translates into more Experience (XP). It is very useful at the Haunted Mines to take skulls quicker, and at the Garden of Terror where you can take seeds faster. You can also damage and slow two or more players with that wide radius. So it is a must-have on my book.
[tooltip tip=”Frostbitten”][/tooltip]At level 7, Frostbitten increases the damage bonus of Frostbite from 50% to 65%. Basically, all your abilities’s damage is increased through Frostbite’s damage bonus. Definitely a must-have for a ranged assassin. The level 20 talent will benefit from Frostbitten later on.
[tooltip tip=”Summon Water Elemental”][/tooltip]At level 10, Water Elemental is the way to go. He will stay alive if Jaina dies, and will keep wrecking havok on nearby enemy players by shooting frostbolts and slowing their movement. The Water Elemental will chase that player down until it dies, or until the player is out of range. Any enemy player coming near it will be auto-targeted. As Jaina, you can command the Water Elemental to attack a target by pressing the same button you used to summon it on the enemy player, and you can also change targets. Summoning the Water Elemental on top of an enemy player or more will do AOE damage on impact. Frostbitten helps there too if they are Chilled.
[tooltip tip=”Storm Front”][/tooltip]At level 13, Jaina can increases her cast range of Blizzard by 100% with Storm Front. That’s very useful to knock Nova and Zeratul’s stealth from long range to allow your teammates to kill them. At the same time, Jaina is able to interrupt enemy players who are trying to take the Dragon Knight, or to turn in gold at Blackheart from a safe distance. Jaina can be a pain in the #$% as a harasser.
[tooltip tip=”Northern Exposure”][/tooltip]At level 17, Northern Exposure makes things interesting for Jaina. Enemies damaged by Cone of Cold are also afflicted with Vulnerable, increasing the damage they take by 25% for 2 sec. At this level, I open my attacks with Cone of Cold to apply the Vulnerable debuff on the enemy player. It lasts only 2 seconds, so follow up with Blizzard, then Frostbolt. That’s a nice damage bonus on top of Frostbitten’s damage bonus.
[tooltip tip=”Wintermute”][/tooltip]Finally, at level 20 the Water Elemental will mimic Jaina’s abilities causing 50% of Jaina’s damage with Wintermute. If Jaina casts Cone of Cold, the Water Elemental will cast Cone of Cold. If Jaina casts Blizzard, the Water Elemental will cast Blizzard. If you do the math on all the damage bonuses from Frostbitten and Northern Exposure plus the 50% from the Water Elemental you will then notice Jaina is a fearsome damage dealer.
In Dragon Shire, at level 20 I can stand on the shrine (north or south), then wait for an enemy player to show up. As soon as he shows up I drop Water Elemental on him to do damage on impact, followed by Cone of Frost, Blizzard and Frostbolt. With the Water Elemental casting all those simultaneously that player is pretty much dead before he realizes what’s going on.
In some areas like the Garden of Terror, where there are bush lines separating the mercenary areas (blocking line of sight), or the mist vents at Blackheart’s Bay — Jaina and another assassin player can basically ambush anyone coming and the ambush can be spectacular with this build. I have ambushed three players who stand next to each other while fighting fellow teammates; and over 80% of the time all three die.
Jaina can’t survive much at melee range, but if you know how to hit and run and harass with this build, you can have a lot of fun helping your team take down enemy players.
